AlumniAiden Smith
After leaving ASA in 2021, where he studied English Literature, History and Sport BTEC, Aiden went on to study a Dual Honours degree in English and Sport Science at Loughborough University. As part of his four-year sandwich course, he spent a year studying abroad at Universität Leipzig in Germany, earning a Diploma in International Studies while immersing himself in a new culture and academic environment. He graduated with a 2:1 and is now planning to continue his studies with an MSc in Exercise Science and Training at Universität Würzburg in Germany, alongside gaining a Level 3 Personal Training qualification.
Reflecting on his time at ASA, Aiden credits the Sixth Form with helping him discover his passion for Sport Science and giving him the confidence to pursue higher education. “ASA ignited my passion for studying Sport Science, particularly through the support and encouragement of Mr Rollason, Mr Ferguson and Ms Minto. They helped me realise what I wanted to pursue and gave me the confidence to take the next step to university.”
One of Aiden’s proudest achievements since leaving ASA has been living and studying independently in Germany. Embracing a new culture, building friendships with people from around the world and adapting to life abroad have all contributed to his personal growth. He is also proud of being a member of Loughborough Students’ Athletic Club and completing a dissertation exploring the relationship between Quantum Physics and Modernist Literature.
For current ASA students considering their future pathways, he offers some simple but valuable advice:
“Throw yourself at any opportunity you're given, but make sure it’s something you’re genuinely going to enjoy in the future. Don’t be afraid to change your mind if your interests change – it’s never too late to find a different path.”
Aiden’s journey highlights the value of embracing new opportunities, stepping outside your comfort zone and pursuing your passions. We are proud to celebrate his achievements and look forward to seeing where his studies and career take him next.
