NewsGold D of E Expedition Success
Our Year 12 Gold Duke of Edinburgh students embarked on their qualifying expedition on 20th May, demonstrating resilience, determination and teamwork throughout a challenging few days in the Brecon Beacons.
The expedition tested students both physically and mentally as they navigated demanding routes while carrying all of their essential equipment. Day 2 proved particularly challenging due to difficult weather conditions. Despite the adverse weather, students successfully climbed Pen y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons, reaching an impressive height of 886 metres above sea level.
As the expedition continued, students maintained their excellent effort and positive attitude. On the penultimate day, participants completed a demanding 17-kilometre route while carrying rucksacks weighing approximately 10 kilograms. High temperatures added to the challenge, but students rose to the occasion and continued to perform exceptionally well. Even a few unplanned detours did not dampen spirits, with all groups showing great perseverance and adaptability.
Throughout the expedition, staff were able to monitor the progress and safety of each group using tracking devices issued to students. This allowed the teams to maintain their independence while ensuring support was available when needed.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment, resilience and teamwork shown by all of our Gold Duke of Edinburgh participants. Their achievements during the expedition are a testament to their hard work and determination, and we look forward to celebrating the successful completion of their Gold DofE Award journey.
