Academy students take action for long-lasting change into their own hands

Throughout this year, our Year 10 Changemakers team has been working hard to develop and launch their ‘Unidrop’ project as part of the Cheltenham Education Partnership.
After identifying a need across the Academy for a more sustainable approach to donating, repurposing and redistributing school uniform, the students set out to make uniform more accessible for all families while reducing waste.
In February, the team presented a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style business pitch to members of the Climate Team from Cheltenham Borough Council as part of a grant funding application to support their initiative. Impressed by the students’ research, commitment to serving the local community and detailed planning, the panel awarded the funding needed to bring the project to life.
Over the past 10 months, the students have attended regular workshops alongside other secondary schools from across Cheltenham, sharing ideas, celebrating progress and collaborating with like-minded young people who are passionate about sustainability and environmental change.
This week, all Changemaker schools came together at a showcase event held at The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum. Students presented their projects, journeys and exhibitions to members of the public and key figures from the local community, raising awareness of the positive impact they are making.
The All Saints’ Academy exhibition featured an immersive red-carpet experience, inviting visitors to explore the environmental journey of some of the most commonly used school uniform fabrics. Guests could also take part in an ‘Eat My Goal’ PE kit donation challenge and a ‘Pin the Tie on the ASA Mannequin’ activity. Prize winners received one of the team’s limited-edition Changemakers teddies.
These teddies will also be given as thank-you gifts to students and families who donate unwanted Academy uniforms at the end of this term, as part of the official launch of the Unidrop project.
The Changemakers team works with Miss Baynham-Williams and includes Year 10 students Diana, Grace, Harvey, Lennie and Olga. Looking ahead, the team will launch a Key Stage 3 mentoring programme in September, training younger students to continue and develop the project in future years and helping to ensure that All Saints’ Academy maintains a sustainable approach to school uniform for years to come.
The project will begin with donations from Year 11 students, who are encouraged to return any uniform items they no longer need at the end of this term. The Changemakers team will then use the summer holidays to repair, repurpose and upcycle garments, ready for redistribution to new families in September.
Chaplaincy Update
As we enter the final term of the academic year, we want to thank our parents, carers, and community partners for the encouragement and support you continue to give our young people. Paul’s words in 2 Timothy 4:7 are a fitting reminder that how we finish is just as important as how we start. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Many of our students are currently in the midst of examinations, and we would value your continued prayers and support for them. We pray that they will know peace, confidence, wisdom, and strength as they complete their exams and prepare for the next stage of their journey.
We are also delighted to share the launch of Shine, an exciting new chaplaincy project that began this term. Inspired by Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:16, Shine aims to help students recognise their unique gifts, grow in confidence, and find opportunities to serve others. Rooted in our school values, the project encourages students to be a positive influence in their communities and to let their light shine through acts of love, service, and justice.
As we begin this final term, we are excited for all that lies ahead and grateful for the partnership we share with you. Thank you for your ongoing support, prayers, and encouragement as together we seek to help every young person flourish in faith, character, and purpose.

Devising to new levels in Drama
Each year, the Performing Arts faculty continues to be in awe of the bold, brave and creative devised performances that our students research, plan, write, create, direct, produce and perform as part of their GCSE and A Level courses. This component really takes the students’ learning beyond the classroom and propels them into work-related industry learning as they form small companies to produce thought-provoking theatre.
As a centre, we consistently achieve some of the strongest devising results in the country across both GCSE and A Level, and we wanted to take a moment to shine a light on the dedication, creativity and hard work demonstrated in this year’s pieces.
Our students’ high level of aspiration and challenge is commendable as they use the stage to raise awareness and educate audiences on harrowing and taboo topics in our wider society, prompting the audience to stop, reflect, respond and leave wanting to make change.
