NewsStudents inspired by author

We were delighted to welcome award-winning children's author Mitch Johnson to the Academy today, where he delivered an inspiring and interactive assembly for our Year 7 and Year 8 students.

Best known for his acclaimed novels Kick and Strike, Mitch captivated students as he shared how his childhood interests, curiosity and love of storytelling have shaped his journey as an author. With a lifelong passion for football, Mitch explained how the sport inspired many of the ideas behind his novels, and he shared some of his favourite football memories and moments that have stayed with him over the years.

Students enjoyed hearing how the things that interested Mitch as a child went on to inspire his writing, showing them how their own passions and experiences can become the starting point for creativity and storytelling.

Alongside his love of football and books, Mitch also spoke passionately about the important themes explored in his novels. As a supporter of Amnesty International, he highlighted the importance of protecting human rights, challenging inequality and working towards a fairer society for all. Students reflected on the importance of equality, including closing the pay gap and ensuring everyone has the same opportunities and rights.

Mitch’s interactive presentation truly captured the students’ attention, with pupils enthusiastically joining in, asking thoughtful questions and leaving the session buzzing with excitement. The enthusiasm continued afterwards, with many students purchasing copies of Mitch’s books and having them personally signed.

A huge thank you to Mitch Johnson for such an inspiring visit and for encouraging our students to read, think critically and use their voices. We would also like to thank Books for Bugs for helping to make this fantastic author event possible.

My child’s motivation to go to school has increased dramatically since moving to All Saints’ Academy from primary school. I am so glad she is actively taking part in lessons and she is building confidence every day.
