Year 12 student achieves gold in Maths Challenge!

Written by Sixth Form Student Journalist Emily Moore.

Year 12 student Fariha recently took part in Andrew Jobbing’s Senior Kangaroo challenge as a follow-up round from her completion of the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge, in which she gained a Gold Award.

The UK Mathematical Trust (UKMT) consists of a series of multiple-choice mathematical questions which are designed to help encourage students and young people to develop and stretch their ability beyond the curriculum, improving their problem-solving and logical thinking beyond regular lessons.

Drawing on her A-Level Mathematics studies, Fariha was able to prepare thoroughly for the challenge. Reflecting on her experience, she said: “The questions were definitely difficult; however, I love taking on challenges, so I found the overall experience enjoyable.”

Fariha was able to tackle this challenging set of problems with confidence, earning herself a Qualification award. Taking part in the challenge has also provided her with valuable skills and experience, which puts her in a great position for next year’s challenge.

Congratulations to Fariha, and we wish her all the luck for next year’s competition!

Careers

On Tuesday 20th January we will be hosting our annual Careers Festival, with over 30 organisations attending from top universities, employers, local post-16 education providers and apprenticeship providers – including former All Saints’ students!

All year groups will attend at some point during the day and have the chance to ask questions and learn more about routes and careers they might be interested in. It’s a brilliant day and we hope it will spark conversations at home about future options – it’s never too early to start thinking about it, given it’s a big decision!

As a parent or carer, if you are looking to build your own knowledge on the options available for your child, take a look at the website Talking Futures . Career Pilot, which has great information for students about post-16 and 18 choices. Prospects is brilliant for understanding the breadth of sectors and jobs out there. If you would like to speak to Mrs Farrow about your child’s options, please contact her on nfarrow@asachelt.org.

Chaplaincy

As we begin the New Year and the season of Epiphany, lots is going on in Chaplaincy and plenty to be excited about. Epiphany reminds us of light, revelation, and new beginnings, and that feels especially fitting as we look ahead to the months to come.

We’re delighted to share some exciting news: the Chaplaincy team will be growing in the near future following a successful recruitment process. We’re grateful for this next step and the opportunities it brings to support our community even more fully.

This term, our shared focus will be on our value of peaceexploring what it means to be peacemakers in our everyday lives, relationships, and communities. As Jesus reminds us: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9) As the light of Epiphany guides us into this New Year, we look forward to walking together in hope, peace, and renewed purpose.
