Celebrating Japanese Culture with a Special Visitor

Posted: 17th April 2026

This week, we were delighted to welcome a special visitor from Japan to ASA. A retired English teacher, she is currently travelling in the UK to learn more about British culture and gain insight into the UK education system.

As part of her visit, she kindly volunteered her time with us over two days, offering students a unique and enriching cultural experience. She delivered engaging sessions on key events in the Japanese calendar, helping students to develop a deeper understanding of traditions celebrated throughout the year.

Students were also introduced to the traditional Sakura song, learning about its cultural significance in Japan, where cherry blossoms symbolise the beauty and fleeting nature of life. The sessions were both educational and inspiring, giving students the opportunity to experience a different culture firsthand.

A highlight of the visit was a hands-on origami workshop, where students learned how to create delicate paper flowers. These were later brought together to form beautiful origami blossom trees, showcasing both creativity and collaboration across the Academy.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to broaden cultural awareness and celebrate international connections within our school community. We are incredibly grateful to our visitor for sharing her knowledge, enthusiasm, and experiences with us.
