On Monday 9th March, four students from Year 8 and Year 9 went to Pate’s Grammar School to take part in the UK Mathematics Trust ‘Team Maths Challenge’. It was an all-day event where the students tackled four rounds of mathematical problems, including a mind-bending ‘cross-number’ and a frantic relay round!
The Team Maths Challenge ‘promotes mathematical dexterity, teamwork and communication skills. It also gives students the opportunity to compete against students from other schools in their region.’
The students represented ASA brilliantly, showing teamwork, resilience and excellent mathematical thinking. They achieved 15th place against some really tough competition, as this is the first time any of them had taken part in a competition of this kind, and they were pleased with their own commitment, confidence and camaraderie! The two Year 8 students have already commented on how they could improve their position next year!
