Outstanding Success in the Junior Mathematical Challenge

Posted: 19th May 2025

We are delighted to share the fantastic achievements of our students in the 2025 Junior Mathematical Challenge, a national competition designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques.

Run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), the Junior Mathematical Challenge is aimed at students in Years 7 and 8 and involves tackling a series of multiple-choice problems that test logic, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It is a prestigious event, with thousands of students taking part from schools across the country.

This year, 18 of our students were awarded certificates – a significant increase from 14 in 2024 – marking a continued upward trend in our mathematical success. Certificates are awarded in three categories: Bronze, Silver and Gold, with the top performers nationally receiving the highest distinctions.

We are especially proud to announce that Ben, Harry and Andrew earned Gold certificates — a huge accomplishment that has earned them an invitation to take part in the Junior Kangaroo, a follow-on round open only to the highest-scoring participants.

This is a particularly exciting moment for the Academy, as we continue to build on last year’s milestone of earning our first-ever Gold certificate by achieving three Golds this year — a clear reflection of our students’ growing skill, confidence and enthusiasm for mathematics.

We would like to congratulate all the students who took part and thank our dedicated Maths Department for their ongoing support and encouragement. We look forward to seeing how Ben, Harry and Andrew fare in the next stage of the competition.
