A fantastic series of performances from the Year 9 boys Futsal team saw them crowned District champions in January.
The team were drawn against Balcarras School and Cotswold School in the group stage. A 0-0 draw against Balcarras, who had already drawn 0-0 with Cotswold left a game against Cotswold. Having reflected and listened to the guidance of Mr Ferguson and Mr Price the boys were able to up their game and helped themselves to a 5-0 win and progress to the winners group.
Contesting the top three places were Cleeve School, Winchcombe School and All Saints’ Academy. Once again the opening game, Winchcombe vs Cleeve, ended in a 0-0 stalemate opening the remaining two fixtures up as a winner takes all scenario. ASA faced Cleeve in the first game with both teams pushing on the front foot. ASA broke the deadlock and promptly built on this lead. With only three minutes left on the clock and holding a 3-0 lead Cleeve got themselves back into the game, and with heads dropping reduced the deficit even further. ASA were saved by the final whistle and took the first win in the group defeating the team in blue 3-2.
Knowing that a defeat to Winchcombe would leave ASA as runners up, it was important that the boys eased their nerves and scored quickly. This feat was achieved and a second was soon bundled in. As the time ticked away Winchcombe showed their quality and resilience scoring twice and drawing level just as the final whistle was blown.
All Saints’ were crowned champions District champions! Every one of the nine boys played in each game , rotated well and worked hard for each other, a true reflection on how they have been coached and the approach and work ethic we have instilled in them. A series of stand out performances from Charlie should be noted but they all deserve equal credit for the series of displays that lead to this excellent victory.
Congratulations to the team:
Callum, Mikey, Charlie, Partick, Xavier, Hristo, Dacian, Noah Davies and Kyle.
