UCAS

Many students are unsure about their future careers, but we work with our Year 11 students to ensure that their course selections as they move into the Sixth form are suitable for them to follow their desired career path. We also encourage our students to be aspirational and aim high so that the range of options open to them is as large and varied as possible. Gaining good grades in the right qualifications is vital for students to make a smooth transition to higher education or employment.

We are very proud that more and more of our students decide to apply to go on to Higher education each year. Over 60% of our students apply through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) each year.

Students are encouraged and supported to make course selections early on and the process of UCAS applications is closely monitored to ensure that students meet deadlines and make appropriate course choices. This process begins as they enter Sixth form in Year 12 and is supported through dedicated ‘futures planning’ and UCAS sessions. These sessions take place in tutor times and work with their tutor, but also through presentations from Universities and GROWS (a partnership of 6 universities and Colleges in Gloucestershire). Students who may be eligible for Oxbridge/Medical/Veterinary courses are identified and encouraged to make early applications.

We also hold a Parents’ information evening so that the UCAS process can be clearly explained and also give opportunities for questions. Our Careers Lead, Mrs Cain is available for guidance and support throughout the application process throughout the year.

We also offer support on results day so that wherever possible, students are able to gain their first-choice places at University.

Where students choose not to apply to university we provide full support to make applications for apprenticeships, employment or gap year.
