We are delighted to share that ‘I Swear’, the powerful British film featuring Year 12 drama student Megan Sykes, has received six nominations at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.
Among the nominations are Best British Film and Best Casting, recognising both the impact of the story and the strength of the ensemble brought together for the production. We are incredibly proud to see a film she was part of achieving such prestigious recognition.
The nominations follow the film’s successful cinema release, which tells the moving true story of Tourette’s campaigner John Davidson and has been widely praised for its authentic storytelling and performances.
Megan said:
“I follow the BAFTAs Instagram, and I knew they were releasing the nominees at midnight last night, so I stayed up to see if ‘I Swear’ had been nominated! I can’t quite believe it — it’s otherworldly almost. To be part of a BAFTA-nominated film is amazing. It’s so great for the Tourette’s community, and we really hope this helps people have a better understanding of Tourette’s.”
The Director of Performing Arts, Miss Baynham-Williams, shared:
“I am delighted that casting, in particular, is receiving the recognition and focus it deserves as a highly valued category at the BAFTAs. Being nominated for this category is not only a huge moment for us as an academy with one of our own students being cast, but it highlights the importance of casting in enhancing storytelling and promoting diversity and inclusion on screen. We are delighted for Megan!”
Staff and students alike are thrilled to see ‘I Swear’ recognised at this level, and we congratulate everyone involved in the production on this fantastic achievement.
