Year 13 Computer Science Students Build High-Spec Gaming PC

Two Year 13 Computer Science students, Reuben and Tobiasz, have channelled their passion for technology into building a powerful custom gaming PC, now listed for sale on eBay.

Both students are dedicated gamers and naturally grew curious about the hardware behind the games they love. Reuben first explored PC building over the summer when he built his own machine. “I realised that it was really fun, and it’s a skill that I could use,” he said. Tobiasz shared the same enthusiasm, adding that PC building is not only enjoyable but could also lead to future opportunities in the IT sector.

The pair spent time researching the best components to ensure strong performance within a budget. They watched YouTube tutorials and selected parts capable of handling the demanding specifications of today’s triple-A games. Prioritising GPU power and overall system speed, they’ve built a machine that performs exceptionally well for gaming and tasks such as video editing.

Tobiasz has also built PCs independently. He previously assembled one for someone who needed a system for video editing and they immediately noticed a huge improvement in speed. Their latest PC, however, is a full collaboration between both students.

Their classroom learning has played a huge role too. Through GCSE and A Level Computer Science, they developed a solid understanding of RAM, CPU architecture, storage drives, SSDs, and how all these components work together. This is knowledge they’ve applied directly to their builds.

Looking ahead, Reuben hopes to study Data Science at university, while Tobiasz aims to pursue a Cyber Security degree apprenticeship. Projects like this give them a valuable head start in their chosen paths.
