Celebrating our Sixth Form Mathematicians

Posted: 6th October 2025

We are proud to announce that, in our first ever entry into the UKMT Mathematical Competition for Girls, six of our Year 12 students rose to the challenge — and three of them achieved a Merit!

This competition launched in 2025 by the UK Mathematics Trust. It is designed to inspire and test young female mathematicians across the UK. It involves five answer-only questions to be solved in 90 minutes, with no calculators allowed, and is intended to stretch the problem-solving skills of participants.

This was our first time participating in the MCG, and we could not be prouder of our students’. Even sitting the paper is a strong statement of ambition and confidence in one’s mathematical ability. The competition is rigorous and designed to push beyond standard classroom mathematics, so every participant should be congratulated.

While all six Year 12 mathematicians deserve praise for their courage and dedication, we especially applaud the three girls who earned a Merit — a remarkable result in a field stacked with very strong candidates. We hope their example will encourage other girls in lower years to engage in mathematics, competitions, and STEM more broadly.

We look forward to entering again next year, building on this success, and continuing to nurture strong, confident young women in mathematics and STEM.
