All Saints’ Academy is proud to offer the exciting opportunity, for Year 9 and 10 students, to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Award. We are currently offering the bronze award to Year 9 and 10 students, and silver to Year 10 students. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a youth programme that encourages students to take part in a series of self-improvement exercises. There are four sections that require completion to gain the award, these are:

  • Skill: - e.g. learning a new skill such as an instrument or taking part in drama
  • Physical: - e.g. playing a sport of your choice
  • Volunteering: - e.g. working for a charity
  • Camping Expedition – Bronze: 1 training day, 1 practice expedition (2 days, 1 night), 1 assessed expedition (2 days, 1 night)
    • Silver: 2 training days, 1 practice weekend (2 days, 2 nights), 1 assessed expedition (3 days, 2 nights)

There are a range of activities that will fulfil the requirements of the award and students will be able to pick their own activities, if necessary with the help of staff.

To sign up for the award students must pay a £23 fee to the charity, including postage and packaging, which is non-refundable. Campsite, transport and maintenance of equipment fees are included in the rest of the cost, £22 for bronze and £52 for silver. For the time being only the bronze award will be available on Parentmail. Any student wishing to undertake the silver award should make themselves known to Mr Kerr.

For parents/carers of Pupil Premium students with current financial hardship, we offer discretionary support to help fund the cost of the program. If you require further details please contact Mr Bradley lbradley@asachelt.org.

All three awards are very prestigious opportunities and may help students gain university places, or jobs in the future. The Duke of Edinburgh Award, or the International Award, is globally recognised, with over 140 different countries recognising it. As well as providing opportunities for academic excellence, it is also responsible for making well-rounded individuals.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email the Duke of Edinburgh Manager Mr Kerr rkerr@asachelt.org.
